| Small Feats Footwear evolved from the State College Stride Rite when we (Eric and Rita Mockensturm) purchased it in June, 2002. The store was renamed Small Feats Footwear to allow us to offer customers a wider variety of brands. We purchased the store after the previous owners had decided to close and liquidated most of their inventory. Having (at the time) a four-year-old and a one-year-old, we hated to see State College lose its only reseller of quality children's shoes. With our own small children and Eric an assistant professor, we realized it was not the best time to become first-time business owners. However, Rita had managed a children's shoe store in Berkeley, CA so we decided to purchase the business and do the best we could for the first few years. One of the first things we did was bring the hugely popular Robeez brand to the area. We also opened accounts with New Balance and Elefanten, and expanded the inventory greatly to offer a wider selection of shoes. With our children now seven and four years old, and the store relocated to 1341 N. Atherton St, we have progressed into 'Phase II' of our plan. |
